Refill not Seafill

Dr.Octopusface Water Refill Station

Social Enterprise Project creating a water refill station/enterprise from service water containers in the Marine Tourist area of Port Barton.
Aimed at providing additional income to local vendors and reducing the amount of plastic bottles in circulation.

  • In the USA 1 in 7 water bottles are recycled.
  • 1 litre of water is need to produce a 300ml bottle of water.
  • Bottling water produces 2.5 million tons of carbon dioxide every year.
  • 17 million barrels of oil are used in a year to produce plastic water bottles , enough to fuel 1 million cars for 1 year.
  • It takes 500-1,000 years for plastic to degrade.
  • Billions of pounds of plastic can be found in swirling convergences in the oceans making up about 40 % of the world's ocean surfaces.
  • The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is located in the North Pacific Gyre off the coast of California and is the largest ocean garbage site in the world. This floating mass of plastic is twice the size of Texas, with plastic pieces outnumbering sea life six to one.
  • Plastic constitutes approximately 90 % of all trash floating on the ocean's surface, with 46,000 pieces of plastic per square mile.
  • One million sea birds and 100,000 marine mammals are killed annually from plastic in our oceans.
  • 44 % of all seabird species, 22 % of cetaceans, all sea turtle species and a growing list of fish species have been documented with plastic in or around their bodies.

Feedback

"What you did here was so AMAZING, you were such a good teachers, educators and a very resourceful team. Thank you for having you and the team here doing a wonderful projects. It helps us to be more knowledgeable and responsible to our MOTHER EARTH. You let kids expressed their feelings about the environment through painting. You taught people how to protect marine lives and to preserve it. What you have done here in Port Barton was highly appreciated. No words can say how much we love your artwork. Our team would like to express our deepest gratitude for sharing your knowledge about marine conservation and everything. We wish you all best Anita and the team, good health and a happy life. Thanks to Atelier Aquatic"

“This is one of the most unforgettable experiences in my life. My classmates realised the importance of the sea and its ecosystem and realized the effects of their wrongdoings. The best thing we can do is to share our knowledge,”
