As part of the event WWF Philippines, Be Green (local sustainable tourism NGO), Department for Environment and Natural resources (DENR) delivered Sea Turtle Information, Education and Communication Workshops.
The workshop sessions in Tagalog and English to the local community to support marine life education and encourage marine conservation. Developing community capacity for environmental stewardship and sustainable marine tourism supporting both endangered species and local livelihoods. The workshops were delivered to various key stakeholders in the community, which directly affect, and benefit from, the presence of Sea Turtles. Specifically targeting; local elementary and high school, Boatmen association, Resort owners association and local government, although the sessions are open to all.
The project involved a group of local and international artists coming to Port Barton to create ‘Marine Murals’ on the theme of Sea Turtle awareness, education and conservation in beautiful Port Barton Marine Park, Palawan, Philippines. The International and local artists will worked together as a global creative team for marine conservation awareness, specifically the local and endangered Sea Turtles.
The artists learnt from each other, exchanging creative skills, ideas and thinking, building community based creative capacity for sustainability.
We spent 20 days painting various public locations around Port Barton, covering a varied range of locations within the community to involve and educate as many people as possible. Including Port Barton Elementary School, Barangay Hall (Village hall), Local music venues, Beach side resorts where turtles hatch, local market walls and various private residences that have public facing walls.
